Internet of Things…

People today are always connected. Connected to computers, smartphones, tablets, and other products, fleets, infrastructures, markets, and people. The connection of everyday physical objects being connected to the internet and other devices is known as the Internet of things (IoT).

Through connecting to the internet, greater compute capabilities are integrated and with data analytics, meaningful information can be extracted. Soon, we will witness billions of devices connecting to the internet creating intelligent systems. These systems have started and will continue to transform our businesses, lives, and our world in various ways. By the end of this article, you will further understand what is the internet of things and why is it here to stay?

Is IoT here to stay?

As you might have already noticed, the physical world around us is becoming one big information system. While technology costs go down, and smartphones are more and more accessible to the mass. IoT has the perfect setup to be embedded with various industries and within the homes of many. It opens up many opportunities and connections to take place and we can start by educating ourselves on its impact.

A trending word nowadays is “Smart Cities” with countries in the Gulf like Qatar, UAE, and KSA already implementing smart cities, we can take that as an example to better understand IoT.

Governments have been devising long-term plans and visions over the past years. Examples of which are The Saudi National Transformation Program 2020 and the “2030 Vision”, Qatar National Vision for 2030, launched in October 2008 aiming at “transform Qatar into an advanced society capable of achieving sustainable development” by 2030…. On the other hand, the UAE, leaders in Smart Government Initiatives in the region has already transformed many of its emirates to smart ones (such as Smart Dubai), and has topped it with its latest announcement of Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2031, along with a set of additional strategies and milestones for 2040, 2050, etc…

IoT and Smart Cities…

Bigger investments had to be made in the days to set up a smart home, unlike today. There has been a significant change in purchase concerning smart-home technology as more instruments reinforcing IoT are becoming more accessible to the general mass. IoT devices are bought off the shelf and connected accordingly to suit the specific need.

Simple examples of IoT in everyday use are the sensors embedded into almost every device like our cars, light bulbs, fridges, ovens, tea kettles, and so on. Traffic polls, pollutions polls, and video analysis, as examples of IoT on the road.

But how is IoT designed, built, and approved?

A secure and scalable IoT is guaranteed through a design and build IoT reference architecture. We can make sure that the devices are safely managed and protected while communication is based on encryption and authentication fundamentals.

Why does this matter?

When we integrate devices such as mobile phones, cards, sensors, and wearables we compromise in the data’s security as these devices fall under threat of being hacked and corrupted. Consequently, we abide by mutual authentication processes crucial to end-to-end security of IoT.

What about the data…

With the speedy advancement in IoT, new challenges are created within the content services industry. Data produced is growing and so is the demand for additional applications. As a company in the content management industry, Intalio is in charge of developing robust software to service such apps.

Intalio IoT enabled solutions for smart cities

Our content services platform uses data gathered from IoT enabled applications for smart cities (since we are using it as an example in this article) to provide a safer, smarter, and healthier community.

Consider an event, seminar, concert happening in your city. An IoT enabled solution could provide fast enrollment services to prevent long waiting queues, using bio-metric integration and recognition for Faces, Fingerprint, and Car Number Plates. Public buildings, parks, warehouses, and other venues, would all be equipped with safety based solutions controlling attendees, local and foreigners whether workers or tourists.

The data gathered from those connected devices and IoT enabled solutions are used to optimize their end-to-end information lifecycle management, using real-time analysis, decision-makers get actionable insights to help identify recurring trends enhancement or complex issues, all through Intalio analytics that provides powerful automatic analysis, exploitation, and functions for large volumes of content, formats and heterogeneous sources.

“Information is the oil of the 21st Century”. We have been hearing this phrase so often recently, but what is the reason? We are in a data-driven world. We create data, we share data, we analyze data, we read data, use data for reports, planning and decision making. We are made of data and as we mature in the world, the amount of data matures and increases and organizations accumulate and store more of it. GDPR is a recent buzzword that we have been hearing of especially around Europe, Gulf and Middle East. Read more to find out why.

With the increase in data, organizations begin to resort to information governance to provide a logical framework with clear processes and procedures in managing data for operational, transactional and analytical tasks. What organizations usually miss before doing so is setting clear information governance for a clear vision on what kind of data they are producing as an organization and how they would like to utilize it so they can abstract more significant data and minimize the cost and risks that come with managing it.

In May 2018, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come to effect. Does this mean anything for organizations? Sure it does and we are about to find out what it means and how it will impact the organizations’ information governance strategy for organizations around the world specifically the Gulf and Middle East!

Better understanding of GDPR…

Simply protecting your rights to data privacy. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU regulation that specifies how data should be used and protected. It was adopted by the EU in 2016 and will be enforced through the EU in May 2018. This does not mean there are limits to what you can do with your data. Your data will belong to you and only you.

How will this concern you if you are in the Gulf and Middle East?

Just because the laws are across the European Union, that does not mean the reach of GDPR will be within Europe only. International business will be affected too. Companies in the Gulf and the Middle East such as KSA, Qatar, UAE, Lebanon and so on, will be asked to implement the “right” information governance by processing the necessary security controls. It is important to mention that many countries in the MENA region including UAE and Qatar have already undergone their own initiatives towards “data protection”, maybe some with less strict details than GDPR, but the overall concept is within organizational structures. An example includes Qatar’s initiative issued in 2016: Data Privacy and Protection Law which has similarities with GDPR.

Who is GDPR applied to?

  • Individuals in the European Union
  • All companies in the European Union if they provide goods and/or services to residents
  • Organizations outside the European Union if they monitor/process behavior/personal data of EU residents

What kind of personal data?

Any kind of data that can help in identifying you. Name, photo, email address, IP address, bank details, medical information, etc…

GDPR Effect on Information Governance?

With the introduction of EU GDPR data privacy became more of a critical element to consider. Many new rules and regulations towards privacy rights, giving more power to data subjects:

  • The right to know what is being done with their data
  • The right to have their incorrect data corrected
  • The right to have their data forgotten
  • The right to have restrictions on processing of their data
  • The right for data portability
  • The right to object for their data being processed
  • The right for limited usage of the data collected
  • The right to be notified about data violation

Once EU GDPR is put into place, data controllers and data processors will have obligations in terms of how they will handle the data they own as an organization.

How will Organizations Govern their Information after GDPR is introduced?

A new information governance work plan will need to be put in place as an effort to comply with this change bought by the EU GDPR. The following are the list of steps needed:

  • Data Privacy Risk Map:

The organizations must start by mapping what data they have and what kind of personal information is included in this data. What processes and procedures they have that are using this personal data and how are the personal data they hold exchanged to and from the organization.

  • Data Minimization:

The personal data collected should only be the data the organization needs to be able to process a certain need/requirement. The personal data must be relevant to the case.

  • Lifecycle Management:

Data collected must be stored for a limited amount of time and not for a long period of time. Therefore there must be a restriction on the retention duration of this personal data.

  • Consent Processes:

Must be simplified so it’s no longer targeted for lawyers to understand. All regular individuals need to be able to comprehend so they can actually give consent for data collection.

  • Data Anonymization and Pseudonymization:

Internal data security measures for privacy assurance. Removing any identifiable information from data sets so data owners remain anonymous.

  • Strict time-frames for data violation:

The authority needs to be contacted within 72 hours for data breaches. Data leaks and information disclosure can no longer be reported a year later.

  • In-house Data Protection Officer:

Organizations will much rather employ an internal data protection officer. The officer will have the power to enforce the GDPR security benchmarks and regulate accordingly.

Conclusion

The culture of Information Governance will see a change within organizations. It’s as though with the GDPR compliance, Organizations begin to fully embrace Information Governance in its true definition of providing operational transparency by managing the use and security or information. GDPR will most likely affect your organization even if you are not in the EU or do not operate in the EU. You should be concerned with the amount of confidential information your organization stores across the enterprise putting the organization at risk of data theft and disclosure of customer information. Take action today!

You would be surprised by the amount of data produced by your organization on a daily basis. It’s not something you think of I am sure. You probably are more into the basic information you are able to gain from this data produced, however, something you cannot disregard is the fact that we are in a data-driven world. Big data analytics is what you really need to achieve business intelligence.

In most organizations, or allow me to say, in most unsmart organizations, data just keeps moving back and forth. It is utilized for the basic needs with no additional importance given. Little do people know that this data is what can help you achieve your organizations’ goals and objectives. When the important parts of data are separated from the unnecessary general information, you will be able to generate key information to turn it into recommendations, strategies and knowledge.

Why a Smart Business?

Business objectives provide a clear framework for translating the success of the business. Shifting to a Modern Enterprise Content Management System

Current Situation…

Setting a data migration strategy is vital as there are many challenges with legacy systems. With Intalio, your data migration strategy is simplified.

One of the most difficult challenges CIO’s are facing is maintaining and upgrading legacy systems like (FileNet P8 and Content Manager 5.2.1, LaserFiche 8 and previous versions, Documentum 6.5 etc…). While technology continues to evolve, the business value of legacy systems weakens as enduring with legacy systems brings with it countless disadvantages that can do tangible damage to your company. Here is how; Legacy IT systems are no longer prepared for change as software editors have discontinued support to those systems. This also means that your company will be paying extremely high maintenance costs. With all those costs escalating, security threats also increase as legacy systems make security worse and not better because of their age especially that installing upgrades and patches are no longer enabled. This consequently affects performance and meeting customer terms becomes impossible. New generations use new technology. This new technology is able to keep up with volume and performance, unlike legacy systems that have restricted update features. We also have new generation employees which are also more familiar with the latest technologies. Imagine the difficulty in finding someone with the knowledge and technical skills for legacy systems.

Urgent Need for a Data Migration Strategy

Real Issues with Legacy Systems that WILL Damage Your Organization…

Let us see why does it make sense to migrate old legacy systems before they continue to hold your company back and how your data migration strategy is simplified.

1) Discontinued support from software editors

Many in the IT industry are focusing on improving the standard of operating systems used in organizations, IT professionals refuse to further support legacy systems and are instead forcing their clients to upgrade. The older the application gets the more difficult it becomes to quire support. For example, IBM support for older software and hardware for version 05.02.01 (IBM official support) will be discontinued in September 2018.

2) Performance and Security-related threats

Legacy Systems are unable to keep up with volume, performance and high availability. This means an increase in manual labor. Consequently, there will be a higher potential in bottlenecks and other inefficiencies. More time will be spent trying to understand high volumes of data instead of focusing on real tasks at hand that could actually affect employee performance and efficiency positively. This also creates a higher risk of data loss and security-related threats, without the ability to install upgrades and patches.

3) Higher Costs

Probably the most obvious disadvantage in legacy systems. Not only is the cost of maintaining old systems high, but there are other costs which make legacy systems expensive.. These costs include; hiring specialists familiar with legacy stems, support engineer pay rates as most engineers are not familiar with legacy systems. Specific IT environment and hardware needed to run the solution as legacy systems cannot be installed or run on any existing environment. Finally, since legacy systems are based on old technology, these systems won’t be able to support their company’s constantly evolving needs, resulting in increased costs for expanding the solution, installing upgrades developing new features, deploying new solutions or integrating with other systems..

4) Difficulty in Finding Experienced Labor

There is no doubt the legacy systems are based on antiquated technologies. Therefore there has become a lack of technical knowledge needed to operate and maintain such systems. New generation employees are more familiar with the latest technologies. It is very challenging and tough for companies to find experts who work with legacy systems and know-how to operate them. Instead, you can easily find IT support personnel already familiar with the latest new generation technologies and databases, saving time, effort, and costs related to maintaining old-fashioned technical skills.

5) Client Differentiated Versions

In this section, we are going to address our experience in the Middle East specifically. As there are country-specific standards for data and information exchange especially when dealing with government entities, set by each country in the Gulf (for example YESSER in Saudi Arabia, MOTC standards in Qatar etc.) these requirements cannot be disregarded when putting in place a large-scale enterprise content management implementation. One of the many challenges faced is the involvement of software integrators (i.e implementers) in most implementations happening in our region, due to the fact that software vendors are not physically present in those regions. Therefore, and also due to the customers’ ever-changing functional and technical requirements, the customer ends up with a custom-developed solution where a different version is installed at each client. Upgrade in those cases becomes difficult if not impossible… This eventually leads to discontinued versions in addition to discontinued application support.

6) User Adoption

User adoption of the system is almost always a necessary ailment for the success of the project. With legacy systems, there are many challenges related to user adoption, particularly for newer end-users. Reason being that the newer end users are not familiar with legacy systems. If the company chose to train those employees, it will be very demotivating to train a new generation on an old system while everyone else is evolving.

7) Lacking Customer & User Experience

The only fashioned legacy systems are not familiar with all interfaces customers use nowadays. Examples include tablets, smartphones, and laptops without forgetting web-based user interface. Consequently, performance is affected creating a negative user experience with a deteriorated document viewing and annotation. This affects the overall business performance and innovation.

8) Migration with Intalio…

Intalio has built a very good reputation over its 25 years’ experience in the field with user experience at the center of all implementations. Migrating to an Intalio ECM Solution will provide many competitive advantages that would make you wish you migrated a long time ago. All our clients have the same solution version customized to fit their individual business needs. Our worldwide proven enterprise content services platform is well in sync with the latest technologies in the field of ECM. With an average of two months implementation time frame, your organization can get a modern browser-based interface, with improved performance and user experience. Intalio has offices all over the MENA region to offer customers a direct level of support sparing them the hassle of dealing with resellers who tend to make the experience unpleasant.

But wait, there is a simpler way! With Intalio, you don’t have to migrate, you can simply archive your legacy!

With Intalio, setting a data migration strategy is facilitated. A simpler approach to data migration is data archiving. Instead of migrating older unused data you can instead archive it so that it is kept and referenced in the current system. This is suitable in cases where older data is important to the organization and may be needed for future reference, or data that needs to be retained for regulatory compliance. Archiving data is simply a win-win scenario using a pre-determined set of business requirements to move data and or documents from legacy systems to a cheaper, secure and accessible storage. This journey is very successful and very simplified. Think of It as three main stages. 1) Capture data using our standard connectors and upcoming ones, 2) manage data whether by classifying it, applying retention rules and destroying it based on pre-defined workflows 3) finally store records while making them available across all search points within the organization for descriptive and predictive analytics.

Help your organization today by getting in touch with our experts.

Redefining the Future of e-Services?

We have noticed many changes over the past decade in the digital pattern of the internet and many developments have happened. One of the latest and most repeated over the tips of tongues of CEOs and CTOs, startup entrepreneurs, and even governance activists, is blockchain technology. While some of you are slightly familiar with blockchain, there remains a wide majority who could have heard about it without really understanding how this new technology will redefine the future of internet transactions.

The internet became a tool for us to decentralize our information, it allowed us to interact with anyone by sending any piece of information in less than a second. Yet, with all the advancements the cyber world brought with it, it still had the gloomy and risky side to it as any piece of digital information is at risk. Online store owners remain to put themselves and customers in jeopardy for payment fraud. This is due to insufficient internet safety.

The simplest example of online transactions is online payment. When you buy a specific item online, the transaction of taking money from the bank involves many intermediaries and all of those intermediaries take a transaction fee which makes it very costly. In the real world, however, you do not need an intermediary that needs to check the money and transfer it. Now, you didn’t think I would be sharing with you all this without giving you some good news towards the end right? Today through blockchain, we can send money like we are sending an email. Blockchain was invented to create the alternative invention to the currency which is known as “Bitcoin” which may also be used for voting systems, online signatures and many other applications. To understand bitcoins, we need to understand what a blockchain is first.

So, what is Blockchain Technology?

Blockchain stores information across a network of personal computers allowing the information to be disseminated, therefore, no central company owns a system that allows the protection of the integrity of each piece of digital information. This different approach to storing information is suitable for environments that have high-security requirements and value exchange transactions as no single person is allowed to alter any record. It does not only allow us to create safe money online, but it allows us to protect any piece of digital information, examples include contracts, online identity cards and so on. So what is bitcoin again? Bitcoin is a form of digital cash (cryptocurrency) which can be sent to anyone across the internet. Using bitcoin means there is no intermediary involved. The verification of the transaction happens with a network of different people all over the globe who help by validating other people’s bitcoin transactions. Blockchain tracks records over this digital cash to validate that only one person is the owner of it.

Just the Beginning of Blockchain Technology

Blockchain technology brings with it so many advantages and this is only the beginning. Blockchain has proved to cut costs, ensure cybersecurity, empower users, reduce the clutter of multiple ledgers, and most importantly prevent transaction tampering. All this is just the beginning of such innovation. This is just the tip of the iceberg as they say, since blockchain technology is predicted to develop so much that soon we will be able to protect our online identity and track many devices on internet of things. Blockchain has, in fact, extended its reach beyond the alternative payment system to revolutionize the entire IT world. For example, a refrigerator that is connected to the internet whilst being equid with sensors could eventually use blockchain to manage automated interactions with the external world. These interactions may include anything from ordering and paying for food to arranging for its own software upgrades and tracking its warranty.

Blockchain Technology and Data Management platforms…

Blockchain technology has shown that it is not only convenient for financial transactions but also for other sectors that deal with Information and Data such as the public sector… Blockchain technology can simplify the management of information; information is managed in a secure infrastructure due to its decentralized nature, giving blockchain leverage over other digital technologies.

These sectors value privacy therefore managing confidential information becomes very critical when it comes to information security. Public and government organizations have their doubts on storing their data on cloud as they have specific needs like storing data within their borders for security and political reasons. The type of data used and shared within those organizations includes highly confidential records such as birth & death certificates, marital status certifications, licensing for businesses, criminal records and even property transfers. As a consequence, though organizations in the public sector are electronically managing their data some records still remain in hard copy, forcing people’s onsite presence to complete record-related transactions

The strength of blockchain comes from the way it was built as a series of blocks that record data in hash functions with timestamps so that data cannot be tampered with. This gives government organizations the guarantee for secure data storage that cannot be manipulated or hacked, leading to improved management of information in the public sector paving the way again for fully smart and secured cities and environments.

There is no doubt that the blockchain technology has gained a wide share in the marketplace and everyone is questioning whether ECM providers (such as Intalio) will be combining blockchain into their solutions. You can rest assured that we will be integrating blockchain technology into our data management solution, as a matter of fact, our blockchain connectors are predicted to be released in late 2018, so stay tuned!

A Simple Approach to Data Management https://www.intalio.com/dm-approach/ Mon, 02 Mar 2020 07:04:38 +0000 https://www.intalio.com/?p=48748 The post A Simple Approach to Data Management appeared first on intalio.

]]>

The idea of data management is relatively simple to understand. An organization must be able to capture, access, transform, analyze, and secure relevant data in a timely and efficient manner in order to apply smart business decisions and processes.

The importance of Data Management for reliable, quality data approach

Data management is concerned with “looking after” and processing row data helping organizations in their digital transformation process. It allows the consolidation of data (and meta-data) in a way that is easy to manipulate, retrieve, and maintain. It ensures data for analysis are of high quality so that conclusions are correct, enforcing well-set data security and information governance strategies.

Good data management allows further use of the data in the future and enables efficient integration of results leading to improved process efficiency, improved data quality, and improved meaningfulness of the data.

Data Management, bringing more value to raw data

Advanced data management tools are needed to collect, cleanse, convert, segment, code, and consolidate content data from disparate content sources for a centralized aggregated “Big Data” ready for analysis. Capture should cover all incoming content in a mixed manner: automated for bulk ingestion of content and interactive for on-demand capture.

The Data Capture phase of a Data Management Framework

Capturing content in an automated manner requires a Capture Process Automation solution. The objective is to define the capture process, the various activities related to it, the various activities related to integration with other content sources, and activities related to the approval and enrichment cycle.
Data capture automation tackles also the issues of migrating existing content to the newly installed system. During the migration, operations such as data cleansing, data linking, data conversion can also be achieved.

Data Integration, a step further to Data Governance

Organizations must be able to integrate data from various, disparate content sources and transform it into trusted information. The ability to integrate information quickly and efficiently is crucial even as those requirements continue to shift and data volumes increase.
Data Integration tools provide the ability to ingest vast amounts of content into Big Data structures in a fast, efficient, and standardized manner. Content is imported in batches through high-performance import procedures while providing classification and organization of content according to existing classification plans. Data Integration Tools are usually based on ETL processes to:

  • Extract various types of structured and unstructured data with large volumes and structures ranging from simple to complex and convert the data into a single format appropriate for transformation processing.
  • Transform extracted data into a unified, standardized format, for storage, to allow further querying and analysis. The transformation phase involves a data cleaning operation, which aims to pass only “proper” data to the target.
  • Loading unified content into the final target

The need for a growing Data Storage Architecture

The above phases will lead to extremely large data sets ingested and stored into the Big Data structures and linked to other internal and external data sets. A solid and performing framework is needed for storing and processing Big Data in a distributed manner on large clusters of servers. Basically, what the framework is requested to accomplish is massive data storage and very fast processing. The core of the Big Data Management framework also consists of the following:

We have been assisted by the customer service chatbot dedicated to a specific task, but an organization that really wants to achieve a turning point in the chatbot space will focus their attention on chatbots as content delivery systems.

Let us take a look at how this AI and ML based solution is shifting the “content marketing” sector.

A Glimpse into Content Marketing

The act of creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract a clearly targeted and defined audience will increase profits by turning this audience into customers. This what content marketing is about, and this valuable content is provided through different channels:

1- Blogs
2- Videos
3- Infographics
4- Case studies
5- eBooks
6- White Papers
7- Checklists
8- Social media posts

The list goes on, and today we are adding Chatbots as a powerful channel.

Today’s users are focused on exchanging questions and answers, which is more favorable than searching and scrolling through social feeds. Therefore, messaging platforms have a big chance in becoming the dominant channels for pushing content and marketing. The light is shed on smart Chatbots.

Boosting Content with Intalio chatbots

Beyond Customer care and services, Intalio mixed Artificial intelligence and marketing. How? Through Intalio chatbot.

Everyone is looking to have a successful path in the digital marketing world, as it is proved to achieve higher profit and attract audience (or customers). What makes Chatbot an eligible solution, is its ability to act, answer and inform the person asking in a personalized manner, which automatically makes your content irresistible.

Here comes the role of the AI-based Chatbots. Trained and programmed to use natural language it will almost feel like you’re chatting with an actual human!

Other than AI and ML, conversion marketing will lead your chatbot to give the perfect answer. Once Intalio chatbot is reached, it (or if we may call him he/she) will already know every information required to provide the exact answer and even to lead the potential customer to the right place, product or service. It is a matter of data analytics.

Roadmap to a Successful Chatbot Content Strategy

Many enterprises are building chatbots that can handle basic customer service inquiries. Fashion retailers and publishers, for example, are implementing chatbots that can act as their personal shopping assistant to avoid any bottlenecks in their purchase funnel.

Therefore, our expertise have complied with the main steps to help you have a bright content strategy for chatbots.

1- Define your goals and use case: whether you are developing an informative chatbot or a chatbot that can take orders and make reservations, or both.
2- Build a voice and personality to your chatbot: your chatbot’s personality represents the company. Its personality is present in every stage of the conversation, including the greeting, the explanation of services, the questions and the answers and the information and services provided.
3- Develop all conversation trees: Going through a conversational experience requires brilliant practices that go beyond the natural language understanding and personality of your chatbot. Unexpected scenarios, interruptions, ambiguities, and other situations must be taken into consideration.
4- Add some visual components: Media brings in more personality to your messages and increases conversation thus leading to high conversion rates.
5- Lead your customers to checkout using call-to-action: Your bot can be your most valuable conversion tool by directing your audience to the required final destination. Using call-to-action buttons to lead costumers to a specific product or page or even to share something on social media, gives your brand the chance to expand its exposure.

Right Answer at the Right Time for the Right Person…

Chatbots often represent the first point of contact for many businesses. Producing content for chatbots is essential for brand recognition and messaging, and with the latest technologies, Intalio will always find a way to improve your business and enhance your work, just as we did with Intalio chatbot.

Technology Trends Shaping the Digital World of 2018

As we get ready to welcome 2018, we get ready to take a giant step towards the future by welcoming technology trends 2018. In 2017 we were able to witness the innovation that we have been reading about for a while and those technology trends became tangible. Though predicting the future, specifically the future of technology trends, is not something we can really do, we can make some guesses. Firms such as GartnerForbes, cms wire, and others… have released some forecasts that help us define the upcoming data and technology trends for the year 2018.

As I went through all the points mentioned I decided to give my observation on the suggested forecasts.

The technological revolution advances at a speedy pace. What is new today can be old tomorrow and if you fail to integrate these technological advances at your workplace, you will fall back immediately. Below are 7 most relevant data and technological trends gathered from forecasts of large firms followed by my thoughts and comments in my current position at Intalio, one of the major players in the field of Enterprise Content Management or what’s called Content Services nowadays

Technology Trends 2018

  1. Artificial Intelligence

As we mentioned in our recent blog about AI making headlines in 2017, we can confidently say that it will continue to make headlines in 2018. Robots and computers will grasp additional data in the coming years. This additional data makes the system learn quicker while increasing its accuracy. As scary as it might sound, this leap in AI means computers can now do more humanly tasks as they will be able to recognize facial expressions, read social media messages, listen, and speak. Do brace yourselves for exaggerated claims about robots wanting to take over our jobs and maybe even destroy us!
  2. Internet of Things: Smarter Daily Devices

Anything can be made into a smart device these days. As technology develops in 2018 we will witness artificial intelligence embedded in almost everything. Whether it’s the car you’re driving or the yoga mat you owe. The devices that are designed to facilitate your life are responsible for generating a substantial amount of data as they are constantly gathering data, connecting to other smart devices for collaborative intelligence. Consequently, a significant number of firms will deploy automated business processes connected to the smart devices where they will take advantage of big data analytics, cloud security, scalability, and management.
  3. Growth in Computing Power

Rumor has it that quantum computers will take over “ordinary” machines in 2018 and I believe this rumor to be true! Once they outdo classical computers, they will advance at an even faster pace. Quantum machines are able to perform many tasks that ordinary machines fail to perform at a high-speed. Google is said to unveil a device that is capable of performing calculations that no other regular computer can tackle. Other leaders in technology are in a competitive race to see who will be launching the first feasible, commercial quantum computer which is capable to the extent that it can solve problems we haven’t thought of yet.
  4. The Famous Blockchain

In 2017, blockchain has proved to cut costs, ensure cyber-security, empower users, reduce the clutter of multiple ledgers, and most importantly prevent transaction tampering. All this is just the beginning of such innovation. Though many of blockchain technologies are still immature and unproven, it can be very successful if your team is well briefed and familiar with cryptographic skills to clearly understand what are the capabilities and the limitations of blockchain before embarking on any project. Blockchain will be embedded in many sectors like government, healthcare, content distributions, and more.
  5. New Tools for Analytics

Yes! Everyone appreciates embedded analytics tools in systems for automated analytics. We all want to understand our competitors & consumers, what our numbers mean, or even identify the murder of some crime! New tools and techniques are emerging with artificial intelligence technology and natural language processing. A new technology for facilitated search and additional recommendations to assist decision-makers mostly in making a decision. Whether you are a marketer, an operations manager, or even a crime scene investigator, the new upcoming big data analytics tools in 2018 are quite impressive!
  6. Cloud Storage, Secure Storage

Employees will rely more on data stored in the cloud. To enhance operations and work efficiency throughout organizations, it has been proven that if employees have to wait for an authorized person to pull out a specific document, they will procrastinate and eventually drop the task. Therefore, it is a necessity to allow access to everyone at a business organization to real-time data. Cloud app providers will embed more tools for logging and audit features to assist security professionals in monitoring and controlling the activity on the cloud. Workflows will be facilitated as the app will be designed in a user-friendly manner allowing employees to work from anywhere at any time.
  7. Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Emerging significantly in 2017 as a very vital technology Robotic Process Automation will continue to do so in 2018. It will commonly be used throughout various organizations focusing on customer-oriented processes. RPA will be combined with other types of technologies such as data capture software, RPA becomes even more powerful and vital in business process automation. In 2018 we will witness the integration of RPA with various work executed by human employees as a management tool. This will generate a professional efficient workforce. RPA just might be the new buzzword in 2018! Stay tuned.
